Impeachment is a many-splendored thing. There are layers and facets and intricacies and technicalities. The important question is once more, "what did the president know and when did he know it?" We probably will not get this question answered as long as Eric Holder is in office. Some Democrats favor the immediate impeachment of the president. Could be. Rush Limbaugh says the GOP will never impeach the president because of his unique iconic status. Never mind that he might just be the worst of the worst American political criminals, he is also the first African-American president and as such he is immune to criticism, to say nothing of prosecution. Meanwhile, the Democrats are desperate for a political issue to save their grip on the Senate. Is impeachment the cause celebre that could unify a political party that seems to have exhausted its ideas? Anything, to distract from Obamacare? "He's trying so hard...racists...racism...cool celebrity friends..." If the IRS scandal can be traced back to the White House (and it seems that it can) impeachment is tough to avoid. This could divide the GOP along the same lines that divide immigration policy. For a multitude of reasons, The Beltway/Establishment GOP would probably oppose impeachment. The unwashed masses who are vaguely familiar with the US Constitution, US History and the rule of law might hold a different perspective. My viewpoint is that impeachment is a bubbling volcano and all of the entrenched punditry who will tell us "what we should be discussing..." will ultimately join in the discussion. The ground is shaking.

Will Impeachment Be A Primary Issue?

First, we need to distinguish between the impeachment of Eric Holder and Barack Obama. Eric Holder is in contempt of Congress. He is a lawless man who should have been impeached long ago.

The president is a separate matter. There are those who believe he has already established grounds for impeachment. When I did a search I was surprised at how worn this well-trod path happened to be. The conversation beaches itself for a moment on that word — impeachment— spoken by a conservative Republican from a safe Senate seat in a reddish state. It's barely even whispered among the serious set in Washington, and it rings like a gong in the middle of the sentence, even though it flowed quite naturally out of the conversation he was having about how everybody had abandoned their responsibility to the country, and now there was a war going bad because of it.

Did you catch that? "It's barely even whispered among the serious set in Washington."  Is that how the insiders now refer to themselves? The political class uses the same term that Vito Corleone uses to refer to the Turk? "Solazzo is a serious man..." But the I word now appears on the Beltway radar.

We have to respect "the serious set." Impeachment is not like marriage. You don't want to enter into this institution lightly. In the words of Joe Biden, oh let's just skip JB's most memorable quote.

Impeachment is not a frivolous matter. We are not one of those countries defined by its regimes. In those places, former leaders do not gracefully retire to the lecture circuit. They are imprisoned or tortured or killed. There was a lot of chatter about impeaching George Bush but even "the serious set" rejected that nonsense. But George Bush did not use the IRS to crush political opposition or use DOJ to intimidate donors or NSA to spy on reporter's families and on and on and on.

Attempting to use the IRS as a political weapon helped get Nixon impeached. Someone--quite possibly the White House--succeeded and succeeded big in using the IRS to stifle and silence Tea Party/Conservative/Religious groups. Nixon was an amateur compared to these tyrants.

Nixon was also impeached for obstructing justice. If it can be demonstrated that the White House obstructed/impeded/mislead investigators in Fast and Furious, Benghazi, MF Global, and of course, the IRS conspiracy, the I word would infiltrate serious set cocktail hours.

How does this become a campaign issue? I am not sure if Cantor or Ryan or Boehner would impeach even if the trails all lead back to you know who. They might look to the opinion polls that tell us that any rebuke of the pampered one is perceived as racist in nature. It would be good to hear from their own lips that they are committed to judging others based on "...the content of their character."

Karl Rove says the GOP has to find an issue beyond Obamacare. The serious set might not find that cause. The conservative power base on the other hand? They might have already found it.

Do We Start Impeachment Before The Mid-Terms?

After walking out of Obama’s State of the Union speech upon hearing the president threaten to violate the Constitution and to rule by decree, Republican U.S. Congressman Steve Stockman (shown on right) of Texas says he is now seeking public support for introducing articles of impeachment. Recent surveys suggest that about 50 percent of Americans want to impeach Obama for a wide range of major scandals, and articles of impeachment have already been filed in the House against disgraced Attorney General Eric Holder, who is currently in criminal contempt of Congress.  

The grassroots effort to impeach Obama, which has surged in recent years amid seemingly never-ending scandals surrounding the administration, argues that the president has committed numerous high crimes and misdemeanors worthy of removal from office. Among other crimes, experts and lawmakers point to unlawful NSA espionage against Americans, “Fast and Furious” gun running to cartels and the ongoing coverup, unconstitutional wars, support for jihadists in the Middle East, IRS targeting of conservatives, Benghazigate, “green” energy corruption, spying on journalists, refusing to enforce laws, ruling by decree, and more.

Impeach!

I heard Limbaugh say that we should look past Obama. He is a sacred cow and no matter how guilty he might be it might not be worth it to fight the uphill battle. Better to fight big government liberalism, etc.

There are a couple of reasons I disagree with that. Obama plays by a different set of rules. Who would have believed that six years after he announced his campaign, Barack Obama would still be unvetted. He was completely invisible to his Columbia classmates. He was visible to certain gay men in Chicago who would end up either jailed (Larry Sinclair) or dead (Donald Young.) And we would not learn who financed his pricey education. There are more holes in his biography as well.

Which leads me to believe that Obama has to be viewed through a conspiratorial lens. Someone extremely powerful has pulled strings for this guy. Who? I don't know. Someone with deep pockets. We can speculate but I prefer not to just yet.

Yes, the news media have a left wing bias but they have never been so obsequious. They ratted out Bill Clinton when they realized that Monica Lewinsky could sell newspapers. Contrast the media of fifteen years ago with General Electric, parent company of MSNBC. They are willing to spend big dollars on small audience shows that prop up the administration. Virtually every other American news outlet has cooperated with the Obama agenda with varying degrees of subtlety.

I have a friend I will call H. H is convinced that Obama will attempt the a dictator for life maneuver. Through martial law or some other heavy-handed tactic, Obama would hold onto the reins of power until they pried them from his cold dead fingers.

I used to tell H that he was silly. Now I am not so sure. The force behind Obama has gone to great lengths to emphasize his transcendental nature. Worse, I think Obama has come to believe his own self-generated mythology.

 His transcendentalism and the mental state of his followers is why this blog is called Post Obotomy Syndrome. This is not Red vs. Blue blog or Left v Right blog or some other variation on that theme (although I welcome input on those matters.) The religiosity has to be taken seriously. Until we can "deprogram" Obama's followers, evidence of corruption, tyranny, sleaze and ineptitude will be immaterial.

Emperor Hirohito was hyped as an arahitogami, an incarnate deity. On the Battleship Missouri, he was humanized. We don't need a World War to humanize Barack Obama. Articles of impeachment would do the trick. Follow the IRS abuses upstream and you will find a president who was complicit in the crimes or who did nothing when crimes were committed.  Follow the Benghazi scandal upstream and you will find a president who was at the very best, derelict of duty. At worst, a president who is criminal or possibly has more sympathy for terrorists than for his countrymen. The Benghazi cover-up starts at the top. Not a lot of upstream paddling required.

The mysterious powers who finance the Ivy League home-schooler's network might not let their mythical entity jet into the sunset. Do they think they can get lightning to strike twice in the same bottle? Give Corey Booker a halo and watch the followers swoon? I don't think so.

The mysterious benefactors might have surprised themselves at how well this all worked out for them. Maybe they have gotten used to the levers of power. Do you think they will give up the illusion they have worked so hard to cultivate? I laughed at the idea of martial law or civil war or emergency powers but then again, I never thought an unvetted president and a band of unwavering followers to be possible either.

Despite the boatload of scandal, crime, malfeasance and incompetence, Obama's approval ratings remain high. Attribute that to his followers unique spiritual orientation.To maintain their power, the mysterious benefactors need to continue the illusion of transcendence. It is up to us to show them that their president is a bigger crook than Richard Nixon could ever dream of being. Only the disgrace of impeachment will drive that point home.
