42 House Republicans co sponsor bill to defend Obamacare

Although it's still a long shot the defund Obamacare movement in the House gathered steam as 42 Republicans co sponsored a bill introduced by Congressman Tom Graves that would keep the government open but defund Obamacare. There may be as many as 100 House Republicans who would back this measure. Should the bill pass and go to the Senate it could either pass it or force a government shut down. Failure to pass a continuing resolution is less drastic than failing to raise the debt limit. There is no impending default if a CR is not passed and services deemed essential would continue which may not include air traffic controllers and certainly not the EPA, or most function carried out by the Departments of Education, Energy, Labor, Interior, or Commerce. It could be a pleasant thing.

General Petraeus heckled by CUNY riffraff

This is the way the country treats its heroes? David Petraeus was chased down a New York City street by student activists at the City University of New York.
Petraeus was reportedly on the way to teaching his first class at CUNY’s honors college, entitled “Are We on the Threshold of the North American Decade?”

Boehner postpones vote on continuing resolution

House leadership will postpone the vote on the continuing resolution to fund the government until next week, meaning Boehner and Cantor don't have the votes to pass it. A whip count reports only about 200 Republicans support the CR. The Republican holdouts want to defund Obamacare. The defund Obamacare bloc is headed by Congressmen Jim Jordan of Ohio and Tom Graves of Georgia. As the leadership needs 218 to pass the CR Jordan and Graves currently hold veto power.
The CR is complicated by the fact that in the Senate John McCain and Lindsey Graham would like to help Harry Reid undo the sequester, about the only success Republicans have had at trimming the budget. All things come at a price and possibly a coalition to defund Obamacare can be formed in the Senate with McCain and Graham but the price would mean undoing the sequester.
Kevin McCarthy argues that the debt limit bill offers another and better chance to defund Obamacare. That would of course mean forcing the country to the edge of default, something that sunk support for both the Tea Party and Obama the last time it was tried. Still most Americans would like to see Obamacare gone but the House leadership is not a well font of courage. We shall see.
Update: If this doesn't give the Republicans the courage to defund Obamacare what would?

According to the poll, support for Obamacare appears to be dropping.
In January 51% said they favored all or most of the provisions in the new law. Now that figure is down to 39%.
Support has dropped in virtually all demographic categories, but it has fallen the farthest among two core Democratic groups - women and Americans who make less than $50,000.

Who will get the blame for global cooling?

Who will get the blame for global cooling? I would like to nominate organic vegetable growers. Not that I think they are to blame but just as honest hard working coal miners and oil company executives were scapegoated for the warming so to must innocent parties pay the price for all the cooling the UN is now warning us about. I look askance at the whole organic movement and regard it as another iteration of green wash. It's not the growing that bothers me it's the marketing. Often the same know-it-alls who profoundly bore us with false promise of immortality from eating organic are the same nefarious bunch who advocate substituting wholesome bacon grease for olive oil.
About the cooling. The UN is in a snit because someone leaked the IPPC's latest report. Yes, they intended to release it eventually but they would rather it not be plastered all over the internet where skeptics such as Steve McIntyre and Anthony Watts could read it but would rather it be subjected to the UN commenting process that has served us so well over the years.
One suspects Al Gore and the dummies who gave him a Nobel for his hysterical idiocy would rather it had been leaked either. This is not going to go well for the EPA as it has cited IPPC fiction as the basis for much of its job killing regulations. Yes, now go back to court and tell the judge not to pay attention to the IPPC. How will we deal with global cooling? Maybe we could manufacture appliances that work and automobiles that people want to buy.
The Huffington Post tells us the report "Excites Skeptic, Annoys Authors And Raises Questions About Process" and there is a move afoot to overhaul the process rather than to answer the questions.
For those of you who may have missed the the news the leaked report reveals that the arctic sea ice has increased by 60% over 2012. The news comes several years after the BBC predicted that the arctic would be ice-free by 2013 so you see, there is a problem. This also comes as the IPPC was trying to explain the "pause" and now they have to explain a prediction that the cooling will last until mid century. The logical explanation would be that we are in a solar minimum and that the sun not, CO2 levels, are the dominate force in climate but that would be too simple and would be the end of climate research spending. Like I said, I blame it on organic gardening.

Police brutally beat 130 lb, 44 year old woman

When the prosecutor is disturbed by police behavior the police have a problem. In an interview with the local newspaper state attorney Willie Meggs expressed his outrage.
"I am extremely upset,” he said in an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat. “It is very disturbing. This is a very disturbing situation to me, and I’m dealing with it.”
Meggs will not prosecute West for battery or assault on an officer. A DUI charge remains open for now, he said.

City Attorney Lew Shelley has reviewed the video and sounds as if he may be eager to settle a sure to be filed lawsuit.
"The video was taken from the police car and shows the road side sobriety test as well as the arrest of the subject," Maddox wrote. "It also shows DISTURBING use of force against a completely non aggressive arrestee. It is my belief that the city of Tallahassee will soon face a liability lawsuit based on the content of the video."
Let's hope so but in the meantime no charges have been filed against the officers and they apparently remain on the city payroll. Yes, an internal investigation has begun but the incident occurred August 10. The defendant suffered a broken orbital bone, along with a swollen eye, bloody nose and cuts to her arms and legs.

Judge Jeanine Pirro Pillories Obama

While I almost always agree with Judge Jeanine Pirro the thought of being married to someone like her terrifies me. Imagine being on the receiving end of such a lecture everyday. "You haven't mowed the lawn. You haven't taken out the garbage. You haven't even changed the kitty litter. Oh, and yes, weren't you the one who wanted to eat at Olive Garden? How did that work out for us?" In any event Obama is on the receiving end of this rant and every second of it is worth watching.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

Surprise! Potus just dropped in. Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, were scheduled to host some unknown Republican senators for dinner as part of the White House's effort to win support for military action in Syria. Unannounced the President stopped by for about an hour and 20 minutes of arm twisting. This is what I would find personally repelling about politics. The idea of spending an evening with someone I didn't like who is trying to persuade me to do something I didn't want to do strikes me a pure hell. And worse yet I would have to keep it from the people who sent me there to vote their best interests. Yeech!

Congressman Peter King will run for president

He is just what the country needs, another washed up RINO. New York Congressman Peter King has made it official. He will be running for President. Quoting the Daily News;

Rep. Peter King  told a New Hampshire radio interviewer that Granite Staters could expect to see a lot more of him “because right now I'm running for President.” Fellow Republicans Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are widely expected to run in 2016, but King staked his claim first.

Lucky Granite Staters! I would guess Chris Christie and King will be competing for the blue state moderate vote. In a general election Christie could carry his home state which I doubt King could do. I have visions of King and Christie arguing who lost more friends in the WTC attack and who do more for his voters in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Will primary voters like King's comparison of the Sinn Féin's Gerry Adams to George Washington. King built a career around the IRA and asserted that the "British government is a murder machine". Three days after his election to the House in November 1992, King was in Belfast for "a spiritual reawakening". The plain fact is King has been very selective in his personal war on terrorism. His excuse is the IRA never attacked the United States.
I can hardly wait to hear the new King.
