Another Forgotten Highlight Of The Obama Administration

How about the IRS audit of a reporter who dared to ask Obama a tough question?

A reporter from a St. Louis TV station who gave a tough interview to Richard Milhous Obama last year wrote on Facebook he had been harassed by the IRS after the interview (Dana Loesch, RedState).
St. Louis Reporter Larry Conners revealed via Facebook yesterday that he has been “hammered” by the IRS since his much-discussed interview with President Obama. Conners, a veteran reporter, asked tough, but fair question during the interview which was slammed by progressives in media. Conners says:
Shortly after I did my April 2012 interview with President Obama, my wife, friends and some viewers suggested that I might need to watch out for the IRS.

A partial summary of the attack on a free press

We will spend years reviewing the widespread, constant abuse of power that uniquely characterized the Obama Administration. Forget about the last eight years? Move on? Hell NO! We will never forget!

Not Exactly A Book Review:"The Intimidation Game: How the Left Is Silencing Free Speech" by Kimberly Strassel.

This blog once more calls attention to the most timely and important book ever written. Yes, we might have made that claim before when discussing other books about Obama, but this baby is certifiably the most timely and important book on the Timely and Important bookshelf. Given the advantages of time, Kimberly Strassel has chronicled the best account of The Left's ongoing effort (lead by Barack Obama) to kill free speech, specifically political speech. Laid bare is an ongoing conspiracy to thwart political opposition by unethical and often illegal tactics,

If we have to pinpoint America's demise, we can do so with the election of Barack Obama in 2008. We all know it takes more time, effort, energy, skill, and smarts to build a house than to torch a house. Things we once held dear--truth, transparency, the rule of law, the first amendment--have fallen victim to Obama's scorched Earth policies.

This blog was started with the intent of exposing Barack Obama as an empty suit. I saw him as a man unqualified for most jobs, much less the most important job on Planet Earth. It was as if through some twist of fate, Paris Hilton would now be headed to the White House for the next four years. Over time, Obama would reveal himself to be something much worse than a vapid buffoon. He would reveal a capacity for evil the likes of which America had never before witnessed.

Over eight years of abused power, it is hard to keep track of all the atrocities without a scorecard, or a score keeper like Ms. Strassel. Remember Obama's backroom attacks on the Chamber of Commerce for displaying the audacity of disagreement on matters related to global warming? Remember the White House-orchestrated protests on the front porches of insurance executives who dared to speak out against a government takeover of health care? You are excused if you have forgotten some of the blatant acts of intimidation. It was one abuse after another after another after another.

Despite the media blackout, we did learn about the IRS's crimes--yes, as in felonious and conspiratorial activity--used to squash groups that might disagree with or even oppose the policies of Barack Obama. Even those of us who think we have the gist of it probably underestimate the scope and frequency of the biggest scandal in American history. We probably underestimate the extent of the cover-up by the IRS, Democratic legislators, DOJ, and the Silent Majority Coalition of the fourth estate. Strassel airs the dirty laundry and it's not for the faint of heart.

Lest we think it was the IRS and only the IRS that was used to harass honest Americans, Strassel reminds us that the FEC, SEC, FCC, and DOJ were also pressed into service, to say nothing of the contributions of thuggish NGO's. To those loyalists who say this is business as usual, Strassel points to the record of George W. Bush. President Bush once publicly suggested that a certain church in California should be investigated by the IRS after they voiced criticism to the Iraq War. The blowback was huge and Bush made no further suggestions of this kind. Comparing the Obama Administration's abuses--and crimes--to other administrations is comparing elephants to microbes. Not even Richard Nixon could hold a candle to this latter day Mussolini.

This blog might preach to the choir but this is an important book. Even if you can just go to the library and skim the chapters, please do so.  Kimberly Strassel  is employed by "Wall Street Journal" and maybe, just maybe, given her lofty status the masters of the universe will not dismiss her as a tin hat bitter clinger. We can hope.

The Biggest Scandal In US History Is Not Going Away Just Yet, Folks

History will be cruel if not sadistic in evaluating the Obama Administration. This is the most corrupt administration ever and the degree of corruption is on a scale that is hard to comprehend.

The Obama Administration flooded the zone with abuses of power to the point that it requires a lot of effort, a lot of scholarship, a lot of work just to track all of them. In normal times, the Obama Administration's weaponizing of the IRS that probably tilted the scales in the president's 2012 re-election would be considered the grossest American scandal by a Secretariat at Belmont margin.

The problem with awarding that scandal a blue ribbon is that the IRS's many crimes--yes crimes, as in blatantly illegal criminal activity--is that they are impossible to separate from Obama's larger effort to ELIMINATE free and honest elections. That titan is dwarfed by the cover-up of the Lerner et al, reign of terror.

Once more, the cover-up is the bigger story. It involves more parties and more prominent players than the IRS conspirators. Included in the obstruction of justice is of course, Obama's Department of Justice including the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Who, in the wildest stretch of the imagination, would even entertain the idea that the FBI would facilitate wrongdoing on behalf of privileged insiders? Life is so full of surprises, isn't it?

Again, Judicial Watch has done the work the MSM--including the vastly overrated Fox News and their endless parade of high-priced shills--refuses to do. Where else can you find this information stated so boldly?

“These new smoking-gun documents show Obama FBI and Justice Department had plenty of evidence suggesting illegal targeting, perjury, and obstruction of justice,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Both the FBI and Justice Department collaborated with the Lois Lerner and the IRS to try to prosecute and jail Barack Obama’s political opponents. These FBI documents show the resulting compromised investigation looked the other way when it came to Obama’s IRS criminality.”

Whoa! May God bless Judicial Watch!

These days I am guarded with my financial contributions but I plan to send Judicial Watch a token gift in the near future.  Keep up the great work, JW!

Mission Accomplished: White House Successfully Covers Up IRS Scandal

Possibly the largest abuse of power scandal in the history of the United States--that seemed to lead back to the White House by the way--was successfully swept under the rug by the most corrupt administration in US History.

Even the timing of the DOJ announcement smells bad. Friday afternoon, on the heels of Hillary Clinton's performance at Congress the day prior.

I don't care if it is Pataki, Santorum or Gilmore. Any Republican candidate who says "If elected my Justice Department will aggressively prosecute the widespread corruption of the Obama Administration up to and including the president" will receive my vote.

By The Way, NYT Readers' Comments Do Not Necessarily Praise The Gray Lady

Re the preceding story: Take a glance at the comments section. Commentators who suggest there are cover-ups (by IRS and by NYT ) receive about 4 or 5 times the recommendations as the "nothing to see here folks" gang.

NYT's The Public Editor's Journal

From NYT

My take:

The Times was somewhat late in beginning to cover the latest development about the lost emails. My office had begun to field several days’ worth of reader protests on the lack of attention when the first story finally went online. Despite that slow start and the quiet display of the subsequent stories (an analytical piece might have been a good choice for the front page), The Times has given its readers insightful coverage of a situation heavily clouded by partisan politics.

The take of Post Obotomy Syndrome's Public Editor concerning NYT's coverage of IRS scandal: COVERUP!

In Case You Missed It: IRS To Pay National Organization For Marriage $50K for Leaking Confidential Information

Two years after activists for same-sex marriage obtained the confidential tax return and donor list of a national group opposed to redefining marriage, the Internal Revenue Service has admitted wrongdoing and agreed to settle the resulting lawsuit.

The Earliest Associated Press Coverage Of IRS Scandal?

This is believed to be the first Associated Press coverage of the IRS scandal. Dateline March 2, 2012. This was old news by the time AP touched the subject.

WASHINGTON • The Internal Revenue Service is embroiled in battles with Tea Party and other conservative groups who claim the government is purposely frustrating their attempts to gain tax-exempt status.
The fight features instances in which the IRS has asked for voluminous details about the groups' postings on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, information on donors and key members' relatives and copies of all literature they have distributed to their members, according to documents provided by some organizations.

Despite Media Blackout, IRS Scandal Continues To Unfold

The Center for Competitive Politics announced their complaint Tuesday, in which they charge that lawmakers tried to get the tax agency to probe outside conservative groups.
“These senators improperly attempted to use the IRS to suppress the free speech of American citizens for their party’s electoral gain,” said Brad Smith, chairman of the Center and a former Chairman of the Federal Election Commission. “We will fight this type of abuse of power and work to ensure that those who have violated Senate Ethics rules are held to account.”
The group wants the ethics panel to look at Sens. Dick Durbin (Ill.), Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), Carl Levin (Mich.), Michael Bennet (Colo.), Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), Al Franken (Minn.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.), and Tom Udall (N.M.).

Breaking News: TownHall Reports Lois Lerner Shared Emails With Elijah Cummings

New IRS emails released by the House Oversight Committee show staff working for Democratic Ranking Member Elijah Cummings communicated with the IRS multiple times between 2012 and 2013 about voter fraud prevention group True the Vote. True the Vote was targeted by the IRS after applying for tax exempt status more than two years ago. Further, information shows the IRS and Cummings' staff asked for nearly identical information from True the Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht about her organization, indicating coordination and improper sharing of confidential taxpayer information. Will Impeachment Be A Primary Issue?

First, we need to distinguish between the impeachment of Eric Holder and Barack Obama. Eric Holder is in contempt of Congress. He is a lawless man who should have been impeached long ago.

The president is a separate matter. There are those who believe he has already established grounds for impeachment. When I did a search I was surprised at how worn this well-trod path happened to be. Tom Tancredo called for the 44th president's impeachment in 2010. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jul/22/the-case-for-impeachment/

Congressman Steve Stockman advocated impeachment in 2013.

And this from an Esquire portrait of Chuck Hagel.

The conversation beaches itself for a moment on that word — impeachment— spoken by a conservative Republican from a safe Senate seat in a reddish state. It's barely even whispered among the serious set in Washington, and it rings like a gong in the middle of the sentence, even though it flowed quite naturally out of the conversation he was having about how everybody had abandoned their responsibility to the country, and now there was a war going bad because of it.

http://www.esquire.com/features/chuckhagel0407

Did you catch that? "It's barely even whispered among the serious set in Washington."  Is that how the insiders now refer to themselves? The political class uses the same term that Vito Corleone uses to refer to the Turk? "Solazzo is a serious man..." But the I word now appears on the Beltway radar.

We have to respect "the serious set." Impeachment is not like marriage. You don't want to enter into this institution lightly. In the words of Joe Biden, oh let's just skip JB's most memorable quote.

Impeachment is not a frivolous matter. We are not one of those countries defined by its regimes. In those places, former leaders do not gracefully retire to the lecture circuit. They are imprisoned or tortured or killed. There was a lot of chatter about impeaching George Bush but even "the serious set" rejected that nonsense. But George Bush did not use the IRS to crush political opposition or use DOJ to intimidate donors or NSA to spy on reporter's families and on and on and on.

Attempting to use the IRS as a political weapon helped get Nixon impeached. Someone--quite possibly the White House--succeeded and succeeded big in using the IRS to stifle and silence Tea Party/Conservative/Religious groups. Nixon was an amateur compared to these tyrants.

Nixon was also impeached for obstructing justice. If it can be demonstrated that the White House obstructed/impeded/mislead investigators in Fast and Furious, Benghazi, MF Global, and of course, the IRS conspiracy, the I word would infiltrate serious set cocktail hours.

How does this become a campaign issue? I am not sure if Cantor or Ryan or Boehner would impeach even if the trails all lead back to you know who. They might look to the opinion polls that tell us that any rebuke of the pampered one is perceived as racist in nature. It would be good to hear from their own lips that they are committed to judging others based on "...the content of their character."

Karl Rove says the GOP has to find an issue beyond Obamacare. The serious set might not find that cause. The conservative power base on the other hand? They might have already found it.

Institutionalized Corruption: The Urban Institute Does Dirty Work For IRS

This is big but not necessarily surprising. It is abuse of power in plain view. The IRS has skirted federal law against politically-motivated oversight by funding a private party to do their dirty work for them.

Why I Blog II: TaxProfBlog

We previously called your attention to a blogger who worked diligently to compile a data base of ALL of Obama's scandals. The Library of Congress has nothing over this guy.

We have spotlighted this fellow before but let us revisit a man who is making good use of the blogosphere. Paul L. Caron reports on the daily unfolding of the IRS scandal.

Issa Accuses FBI and IRS of Obstructing Justice

Six months after it began, the FBI’s investigation has resulted in no release of information. The congressmen said the FBI even rescinded an offer for an in-person briefing with the assistant director in charge of the investigation. The reversal, after the FBI consulted with the Justice Department, suggests political meddling, the two investigators said.
“The department’s tactics have impeded a congressional investigation and interfered with the committee’s access to documents and information. Obstructing a congressional investigation is a crime,” Mr. Issa and Mr. Jordan said in their letter to Mr. Comey, warning that if they don’t get the information they will use “compulsory” means.
