I don't claim to be a foreign policy wizard but I think I could be slightly less inept and only half as clueless as our smart diplomat leading from behind. Anyone who put America first and followed the doctrine of common sense would be a better leader than that empty suit in the Oval Office.
What is obvious is that Russia is a natural ally. I remember when Mitt Romney threw us a curve and said that Russia was our enemy. Huh? It was not a high point of his campaign. Russia, like India--another natural ally--borders both China and the Muslim world. They have suffered their share of workplace violence in theaters and day care centers. They have said their Soviet mea culpas and have committed themselves to free enterprise. Being that they have a flat income tax of 13 % and no politically-oppressive thugs comparable to the IRS, I submit that Russia has a better human rights record than the United States.
Putin is many things but he is no dumb ass. I would say that he is a good leader if only because he puts his country's interests first. He has a a cozy relationship with Assad. He does not want to see Assad trampled and Al Qedah 3.0 to grab the reins of power. It is in Russia's interest to maintain stability in the region. Country first.
I am grateful that we never had a blow out with the Soviet Union. We came close a couple of times but fortunately, prayers were answered. Are we now going to light the powder keg just to prop up Barry's ego? I have not heard the case made--because it cannot be made--that it is in the USA's best interest to topple Assad. Worse yet, let's not hurl Tomahawks as some sort of exercise to "make a statement."
Yes, we elected an egomaniacal, anti-American opportunist. We reap what we sow. But just this once, Barry, do the right thing. You got enough blood on your hands.
