Perry Bites The Dust

A political handicapper I am not. From the time Mitt Romney announced that he would not run and the time that Rick Perry requested that the front runner be barred from the first debate for making politically incorrect but largely true statements, I thought the former governor of Texas had an excellent shot of winning his party's nomination. At the very least, I thought he would outlast Gary Gilmore or Patakitin or Saintorum. That starting gates does in a lot of good horses.

Long ago I told people the Patriots should go with Bledsoe instead of Brady. I would later call Brady a fluke but of course I would eventually retract that statement. Guess there are a few things I don't know.

Bye-bye Governor Havahart. We wish you well.

Conspiracy In Plain View

We do not litigate against nor prosecute public officials for the lawful execution of their duties. we threw every ex-politician or bureaucrat in jail for actions we dislike, no one would ever perform public service. Bye bye republic.

Governor Rick Perry has been indicted of bogus charges by a corrupt prosecutor in an act of blatant corruption. His crime is defunding a pet program, something he is legally entitled to do. It is no coincidence that Perry is a front runner for the presidency in 2016 anymore than it is coincidence that Governor Scott Walker was subject to a bogus John Doe grand jury. Walker emerged squeaky clean but the witch hunt might have destroyed his campaign for re-election.

Ultimately, Perry will probably be pardoned by Governor Abbott shortly after he takes office. It is doubtful if enough voters will stand with Wendy to prevent this action. Of course, the bogus indictment will be used against Perry when he runs in 2016.

This is not rough and tumble politics. Filing false charges is a criminal offense. This is not your father's Democratic Party. They are a bunch of thugs. This is a conspiracy in plain view, roaring down Main Street louder than a Shriner drum and bugle corps. This is what fundamental change to America looks like.

It's Not That I Like Rick Perry

Per Hoosierman's "I Like Rick Perry," http://obotomy.blogspot.com/2014/06/i-like-rick-perry.html I don't so much like Rick Perry as I think he is the most electable Republican. Understand, I do not dislike Rick Perry, I just don't like him as much as I like Paul and Cruz. Hoosierman mentioned that Perry is a governor, and a highly successful one at that. A case could be made that Perry deserves the Nobel Prize for Economics. But Perry is also an Air Force pilot and his military service will not go unnoticed by a lot of voters. Also significant, Perry has previously run for president. He did poorly in 2012 but a presidential campaign is unlike anything else. He should be better prepared this time around and he will be less likely to suffer through an embarrassing "what's the name of that agency I want to eliminate?" and he is less likely to let a pesky Mitt Romney get under his skin. Retail politics might come a little bit easier this time around. If there are skeletons in Perry's closet, they probably would have surfaced by now. That is the problem with getting behind a Herman Cain or anyone who has never been held under the microscope. Their entire campaign can get sidetracked by spurious allegations that have not been put to rest. Perry is a known quantity. While we are on the subject, I strongly believe a politician should hold at least one elected office prior to running for the presidency. For one thing, he should be able to prove that he can run a campaign and get elected. Second, he should also face the challenges that can only come from holding public office. I hate to agree with Ann Coulter but Ben Carson and Donald Trump and John Bolton and David Petraeus for that matter, should not be considered for the White House until they pay their dues. If I was an oddsmaker, I would install Perry as the 2016 favorite.
