Mitt has not asked me for advice but it is painful to watch him make a fool of himself in public. Maybe I should not concern myself with career moves of professional weasels but like the Monday morning quarterback, I just can't help myself.
Mitt, you were never one of us. Philosophically, you sided with the political class, the government insiders. Even when it was insider vs. insider--2012--you were ruthless against your Republican rivals and you were a doormat against Obama. Why? Because culturally you are closer to Obama than to Gingrich. Maybe it's a Harvard thing, we wouldn't understand.
Romney will never win another GOP nomination. Never. It is not inconceivable, however, that Mittens could capture the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016. It would take a slight makeover but the media will help you with that. They would love the "too extreme for even their right of center standard bearer" meme and they would do all they could to promote your evolution.
If this sounds far-fetched, remember the comeback of Charlie Crist. Here was a lifelong Republican who held the governor's office and sought a Senate seat in 2010. Had Crist not encountered the Tea Party and a political prodigy named Marco Rubio, he might have become Florida's answer to Lindsay Graham.
Fast forward to 2014 and our recurring character is recast as the Democrat gubernatorial candidate in the Sunshine State. As unlikely as the script might read, Crist comes within one point of defeating an incumbent governor. Crist's strong performance in an off-year election that painted most of the country red raised more than a few eyebrows. Viva Los RINOs!
Obama has depleted the Democrat farm system and squandered a fortune of political capital. "Romney/Booker 2020" is a highly plausible scenario. You go, Mitt!
