Brevity is the soul of wit. KISS = Keep it simple, stupid. The Republicans might yet snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
In 1994 Newt Gingrich presented The Contract With America. It consisted of ten focus-group-tested principles that most America wanted but the elite of DC happened to oppose. It was short, sweet and effective.
The pledge is not short. It may or may not be sweet. It probably will not be effective.
The GOP found it difficult to live up to 10 promises. Living up to 23 would be harder. Much harder. I understand the appeal of not bringing terrorist suspects to America but circumstances could make that proposal difficult to enforce. There are only so many cells at Gitmo and they are mostly occupied. If we stoke the war on terror, terrorists might end up incarcerated on US soil. Pure and simple.
It is easier to get off-message with a 45 page pledge than a 1 page pledge. Concision is second to principle but it is a phote finish second.
Before it is too late, the GOP should offer a modified pledge. Something that can be expressed in 1 page! The pledge weighs in at 45 pages! Emphasize fiscal responsibility first, Obamacare repeal second, National security/anti-terrorism third, immigration (which overlaps with the first three principles) fourth, and six other principles as well. Hell, you might not want to emphasize ten principles. Four or five might be enough. Clarity and brevity. Clarity and brevity.
45 !#$%^* pages! These idiots are going to save America? Newt. Newt. Whereforth art thou?

Is there a man in the house?Yeah, now we know why no one reads party platforms. I've read more exciting insurance policies. Why, when they have the wind at their backs do the Republicans discover meekness? They leave one yearning for the no nonsense, take no prisoners full frontal assault of say Bob Michaels or Denny Haster.
