RIP: Jerry Pournelle

I miss a lot of deserved RIP's but then again, this blog is not supposed to be an in memorium kinda place. My heart goes out to those who are great but are probably unnoticed by popular media.

Jerry Pournelle was a great science fiction writer and futurist.

I have posted this trio of gems before in which Pournelle (with the help of Durk Pearson and Tom Snyder) gives us a glimpse of the eventual future. Two things jump off the page. One, in 1979 we did not have a word for a printer. Pournelle describes is as an automatic typewriter.

Second, and this is a smaller matter, is Pournelle telling us we will read newspapers from a glass screen. Of course, he would be right but it still amazes me how fast glass disappeared from our desktops,.

Restating The Case That Jeff Sessions Is Either A Judas Or A Fredo Or A Charlie Brown Or A Forrest Gump Or Perhaps A Horse's Ass At Large

Whatever he might be, I have zero respect for Jeff Sessions. He is the biggest mistake Donald Trump made as a president and possibly the worst mistake of Trump's entire life.

From Judicial Watch:

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton made the following statement regarding the  Department of Justice’s decision not to bring charges against Lois Lerner, former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS, whose own emails place her at the heart of the politicization of the IRS for the targeting of conservative groups:
I have zero confidence that the Justice Department did an adequate review of the IRS scandal. In fact, we’re still fighting the Justice Department and the IRS for records about this very scandal. Today’s decision comes as no surprise considering that the FBI collaborated with the IRS and is unlikely to investigate or prosecute itself. President Trump should order a complete review of the whole issue. Meanwhile, we await accountability for IRS Commissioner Koskinen, who still serves and should be drummed out of office.
Judicial Watch released 294 pages of FBI “302” documents revealing top Washington IRS officials, including Lois Lerner and Holly Paz, knew the agency was specifically targeting “Tea Party” and other conservative organizations two full years before disclosing it to Congress and the public.  An FBI 302 document contains detailed narratives of FBI agent investigations.  The Obama Justice Department and FBI investigations into the Obama IRS scandal resulted in no criminal charges.

Owner Saves His Home From Flood With Aqua Dam

No Kidding? Looks Like The Dems Stole New Hampshire's Senate Seat. Possibly Stole Electoral Votes From Hillary.

For years, the mainstream media has ignored the problem of voter fraud and belittled those of us who are trying to do something about it. And when secretaries of state like me identify cases of fraud, we are told that the number of incidents of voter fraud is too insignificant to matter.

Now, however, facts have come to light that indicate that a pivotal, close election was likely changed through voter fraud on November 8, 2016: New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate Seat, and perhaps also New Hampshire’s four electoral college votes in the presidential election.

New Hampshire is one of fifteen states that allow same-day voter registration. The benefit of same-day registration is that it allows a person who has procrastinated or has forgotten to register to nonetheless cast a ballot on election day. The downside of same-day registration is that it does not allow the state time to assess the eligibility of the voter. A volunteer poll worker simply accepts a modicum of identification and takes the voter at his word that he’s a U.S. citizen resident of the state who is eligible to vote.

A Glimpse Of The Near Future: New Criteria For Cryptocoin Creation

Long-term, I do not know if cryptocoins will be tsunami or a mud puddle. It might turn out to be seen as one more scheme. In the short-term though, cryptocurrencies will be the most earth-changing event since the Internet migration.

To earn a Bitcoin, the original successful cc, one has to solve a mathematical puzzle. Many of us asked, why don't the cc generators ask their recipients to do something else, maybe something noble, altruistic or productive. Latium is providing a forum for this sort of activity.

In fairness, I don't know if the cc gods are rewarding that which is noble, altruistic or productive but they are handing out coins for things like signing petitions. This is a big step.

POS Boldly Promoting A Hate Group

Seriously, these nuns got tagged as a hate group by SPLC. Book em, Danno.

Antifa beats conservatives, Trump supporters and anyone they disagree with with bats, bars, bike locks and bricks.
The far left SPLC does not see hate in these actions. And that it why you can never trust this toxic group.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is currently being sued for classifying a Christian Church as a hate group.
The Southern Poverty Law Center also put the Spokane Singing Nuns on their hate list.
But not Antifa terrorists.

Oh BTW, Obama's Stimulus Was A Failure...QE Is Also A Disaster

President Obama’s great stimulus spending and QE programs saw disposable income of average Americans reverse historic trends and stagnate or  actually decline.  There has been a huge increase in the taxes they have to pay for everything from gasoline to cell phones and property taxes. And since government is responsible for these taxes and the big states are all run by Democrats with liberal news media, these facts are seldom reported.

Reflections On William Kristol's Suggestion That White Workers Should Be Replaced By Immigrants

I am not big on apologies and I believe we need more, not less, offensive speech. I don't want to portray the American worker as one more snowflake jumping at the opportunity to elevate his victim cred. To rehash, a vid emerged of renowned Never-Trumper, William Kristol, speaking at an American Enterprise Institute function. Surprisingly, Kristol drops his neocon veil and treats the audience to a Gruberesque epiphany touting the merits of replacing America's white working class

Kristol's argument goes something like this: Ethnic groups get lazy over time. Each new generation is a  photocopy not as good as the original or even as well-defined as the last version. Perhaps Kristol is projecting his own life onto the nation. He is after all, the son of a genuine intellectual who carried palpable public influence. The Krisols might not have fallen with the enhanced gravity of say, the Kennedys, but they have jumped the shark and William happens to be the Fonz.

First, if ethnic groups do grow lazy over time, and that is a big assumption, what would hold true for white Americans would also hold truer for African-Americans. African-American's ancestors preceded the immigration of Irish, Italians and Russian Jews to name but a few newbies. Should the African-American worker also be replaced? And what about native Americans? Would their longevity move them to the top of Kristol's lethargy list?

I realize that it is considered impolite to compare a pundit's viewpoint to those held by certain leaders in certain countries at certain times but when one talks about replacing ethnic groups, it does have an ominous ring to it. Perhaps Kristol should elaborate on his preferred method of replacement. We'll skip historical parallels for now.

What is frustrating is not the snide, callous tone of a man who started life on third base, who was granted a plum job of writing speeches for a vice president (Dan Quayle. An epic Kristol failure) and who would eventually inherit a national news magazine. No, what is frustrating is that once more, the intelligentsia gets it wrong. Kristol misses by a measure unfathomable.

In 2016, a failed candidate ran on a campaign of free stuff free stuff free stuff, Donald Trump, on the other hand, ran a successful campaign promising his people that dreaded four letter word: WORK! Trump could get an automatic applause reminding his audience how much work work work awaited them in the future.

Work and more work were the unifying themes of the Trump campaign. What were MAGA Nation's grievances? Work had been sent overseas and domestically, work was taken from them via cheap, imported labor. Kristol's labeling the white American working class lazy is not so much insulting as it is inaccurate. Kristol is, to be polite, stupid.

Perhaps on this Labor Day the William Kritols of the world will honor the hardest-working, highest-skilled, most-reliable work force on Planet Earth. We can dream, can't we?

If You Don't Already Find Jeff Flake Repulsive...

“Regarding the Arpaio pardon, I would have preferred that the President honor the judicial process and let it take its course,”  Jeff Flake on Twitter.
Well, this very judicial process also convicted a Cuban terrorist/spy named Gerardo Hernandez for –among other crimes--conspiracy to murder U.S. citizens. The judicial process so revered by Jeff Flake then sentenced the Cuban terrorist to two consecutive life terms. In fact, these convictions were upheld all the way to the Supreme Court.
Yet Sen. Jeff Flake was a gleeful accessory to Obama’s pardon (by any other name) of this communist spy/murderer/terrorist and his release back to Cuba as a conquering hero.
