A Disillusioned Obama Voter

At last! A ray of hope! A solitary Obama-luster has come forward to renounce his vow of lifelong conscious stupidity. Hope and change! Change we can believe in!

Fondly, I remember traveling across the nation to campaign and canvass for you, full of love for you, worried endlessly that the media would deconstruct you or damage you through lies or racial hatred.

I truly believed you could relieve a nation hungry for change and inclusiveness, and bolster America’s global standing.

A Silhouette In The Sunset

So let’s just stick to what we know.  In 1979, he moved to Los Angeles to study at Occidental College under the name of Barry Soetoro.  He later transferred to the home of Cloward and Piven:  Columbia University in New York.  Ironically, in 2008, the Wall Street Journal reported that 400 random Columbia classmates from his class of 1983 have claimed to have never met him.  In fact, within the same Wall Street Journal article, the following questions were also raised:

“Why not release his Columbia transcript? Why has his senior essay gone missing?”

Furthermore, the 2008 Libertarian Party vice-presidential candidate, Wayne Allyn Root, in an article written on August 6, 2012, questioned “his” attendance at Columbia University.  This is very interesting considering Root was also one of Columbia University’s 700 graduating students in 1983 and was in the Political Science department of which had only 150 graduating students that year.  How is it that, out of only 150 students all attending similar classes at the same time, cannot remember such an eloquent and charismatic smooth operator now?  Not even one?   Moreover, in October 2007, the New York Times ran a piece about “him”.   In this article it comments regarding his:

Peter Thiel, Techie Trumpster, Harrassed By Department Of Labor

The U.S. Department of Labor filed a lawsuit Monday against Palantir, a data software startup said to be valued at more than $20 billion, for allegedly being biased against hiring Asian candidates.
The secretive startup was cofounded by Peter Thiel, an investor and Facebook board member who has emerged as perhaps the most prominent Donald Trump supporter in the tech industry. Thiel is also known for backing lawsuits against Gawker Media, which forced the company to sell itself.

More Codevilla

In today’s America, a network of executive, judicial, bureaucratic, and social kinship channels bypasses the sovereignty of citizens. Our imperial regime, already in force, works on a simple principle: the president and the cronies who populate these channels may do whatever they like so long as the bureaucracy obeys and one third plus one of the Senate protects him from impeachment. If you are on the right side of that network, you can make up the rules as you go along, ignore or violate any number of laws, obfuscate or commit perjury about what you are doing (in the unlikely case they put you under oath), and be certain of your peers’ support. These cronies’ shared social and intellectual identity stems from the uniform education they have received in the universities. Because disdain for ordinary Americans is this ruling class's chief feature, its members can be equally certain that all will join in celebrating each, and in demonizing their respective opponents.

Codevilla Does It Again

This election is about whether the Democratic Party, the ruling class’s enforcer, will impose its tastes more
strongly and arbitrarily than ever, or whether constituencies opposed to that rule will get some ill-defined chance to strike back. Regardless of the election’s outcome, the republic established by America’s Founders is probably gone. But since the Democratic Party’s constituencies differ radically from their opponents’, and since the character of imperial governance depends inherently on the emperor, the election’s result will make a big difference in our lives.

Debate Hangover

Let me retract a previous comment about my not caring how well Trump did in the first debate.

First, a lot of Trump supporters thought he won the debate. Many of them were appalled at the blatant partisanship of moderator, Lester Holt. Did Hillary get to plan the questions with Holt? No wonder she was so well prepared.

A Drudge Poll favored Trump by 81 to 19. The site linked to CNN and Time online polls where Trump also won but by much smaller margins. So it could be that both camps shored up their base. That's not good enough. Trump had the momentum for about a month and could have delivered the coup de grace last night. Nope.

I texted to JH through most of the show. Each time a softball came up, I would offer my suggestion and JH would offer his. We had different suggestions but both would be better than whatever Trump happened to say.

The key word is counterattack. It is always key but so few politicians ever learn it. Hillary brings up the way Trump has talked about women. Softball! Instead of explaining himself, Trump should have brought up Jaunita Broaddrick and Hillary's important role in obstructing justice.

I hate to say it but it's hard to teach counterattacks to someone who is self-centered. Years ago a reporter questioned some aspect of Ross Perot's paper boy narrative. A day or so later Perot produced a map of his paper route roughly a half-century vintage. Trump ran into those all night long. His bankruptcies, his taxes, his business disputes. Not as if Hillary lacks vulnerabilities. She is one vast Achilles Heel.

Trump apparently has not learned the value of preparation. It's a shame. He could have ended the election last night.

BTW: Washington Mall Shooter Is Of Turkish Descent And Is A Hillary Supporter

The Cascade Mall shooter originally described as Hispanic turns out to be Turkish-born Arcan Cetin. I guess they all look alike to media folk. According to his Tweets, he is also a Hillary supporter.

The media have abandoned coverage on this one but if it surfaces they have a few diversionary tactics at their disposal. The obvious use of a firearm by a high school ROTC participant who played video games and still found time to criticize President Obama (actually he compared his policies as well as the Dem governor of Washington's policies to Communism. That might have been praise mistaken for criticism.)

There is no mention of the suspect's religion. Lutheran perhaps? Baptist? Orthodox Jew? We can only guess at this point.
