My Reservation About Ted Cruz

I believe that Ted Cruz is constitutionally eligible to be president. He was born in Canada to a father who was Canadian but his mother was and is American. I also believe that Barack Obama is ineligible even though he was born in Hawaii because he was adopted by a foreign national as a child.

I believe that John Roberts has been corrupted and cannot be trusted to deliver an honest decision. The Dems are comfortable losing hundreds of seats because they control the bureaucracies and courts and they run these institutions without regard to things like legality, constitutional safeguards, equal treatment under the law or even a sense of fair play. For the Dems, the courts are but one more deck of cards to stack.

Should Cruz get the nomination expect multiple challenges to his eligibility. With that stated, I think Cruz is the best hope for the resistance. He wins more or less by default. I had better hopes for Perry and Walker but their flaws showed sooner rather than later. Trump is a populist and he appeals to my populist streak but I would be more comfortable with someone who shares my basic principles.

I like Rand Paul on paper but I wish he was more hawkish. Stylistically I do not like the way he sucks up to the media. Whereas Trump puts the media whores in their place, Paul goes on CNN to bash the Donald. Do not even try to curry favor with those snakes, Dr. Paul.

The final straw with Paul came in the last debate when he made good points about the dangers of installing a no-fly zone in Syria and then delivered a cheap shot to Chris Christie about Bridgegate. once more, Paul decided to parrot the MSNBC party line to bash a Republican. Maybe 2024 but not this year.

Carly and Carson have faded. Neither candidate was prepared for the big time. Kasich and Christie are RINO's several times over. Oh, I forgot to mention Bush. Oh well. He will soon be an afterthought.

That leaves Rubio from the big stage. This guy has gone from Tea Party to Establishment faster than Scott Walker. Trey Gowdy's endorsement just won't seal the deal for me. Maybe 2024.

Cruz seems like the strongest viable choice for constitutionalists. Brace yourself for the eligibility challenge.

Thankfully, Trump has obliterated Jeb Bush… The Bush name alone deems him to be totally unelectable, thanks to the mainstream media. He’s apparently too stupid to realize that…
Carson has, indeed, faded… Although he appears to make perfect sense with his arguments, his seemingly mild demeanor betrays him… I also have a problem with his facial tics (the wide-eye thing, along with the open-mouth thing), which seem to indicate some sort of emotional struggle within himself… I think that it’s safe to assume that I am not the only one who notices this...
The fat governor of New Jersey shot himself in the foot a long time ago… Need I elaborate? I think not…
I think that Rand Paul’s “I’m smarter than you” attitude renders him dead in the water…
Having never really accomplished much, Rubio’s boyish charm can only get him so far… He was put in his place at the last debate by Ted…
Then there’s Carly who, oddly enough, I really like… I believe her when she says that she’d make mincemeat out of Hillary… She manages, however, to be quite unlikeable far too often…
Is there anyone left besides Ted and The Donald?…
Until Dr. Carson (and then Trump) came along, I believed Cruz was The Man…
He needs, sometimes, to put a little more “heart” in his message without appearing to be acting, though… (I think that's something that he can’t help, however)…
The eligibility thing will be something that the MSM will try to cling to as long as they can—so, it just might hurt him, unfortunately…
In spite of the fact that Trump very rarely outlines an actual plan in regards to his overall scheme to “make America great again”, I believe that he is the hands down favorite to beat the democrats—which he will, quite soundly, if not historically…

I realize that my ramblings here have been 99% off-topic… But, you mentioned Ted in the first place...

Not even close to off-topic, Moose. Your analysis is spot on. Re Carson: I know Trump violates this rule but it is conventional wisdom that a presidential candidate should hold at least one public office or at least be part of a campaign. Carly has never held office but she did run a tough Senate campaign in California in 2010 against an entrenched incumbent. For Carson to jump into the presidential race is like a novice playing his first soccer match at the World Cup. This is all new to Carson.

I sometimes feel that the sum of Cruz's parts do not add up to the whole. Stylistically, he looks like he was pulled out of a black and white movie. Maybe he just reminds me of Desi Arnaz. No disqualifiers but his presentation has given me pause for a long time.

Thank you, WBL…
The Presidential election has, perhaps, always been more or a "popularity contest” than anything else—as profoundly evidenced by the election of BHO…
A man whose message lacked any substance whatsoever.. "Hope and change"…
That was it!…
Anyone with any mental octane at all should have been immediately troubled by this message… It was ingenious!… And who cared about his proven association with former terrorists and the like?… Surely, this man would lead us to Utopia—and beyond!!…
Unfortunately, the “inspired” populace failed to recognize the heinous double-meaning of the message--and blindly resisted any and all attempts by the opposition to reveal the true meaning of his words…
Now we have Hillary, whose laundry list of “alleged” criminality is widely known… It’s rather obvious that anyone so-suspect should incite an avalanche of citizens to the voting booths to simply vote against her… Surely, it will take a monumental amount of voter fraud to elect her—even more than it took to elect BHO…
Or so I (and any rational person) would think…
Mr. Trump, in my estimation, is quite similar (regarding his message) to BHO…
If nominated, as I believe he surely will be, he will get my vote…
The problem is: I am really not sure if he will actually lead us to The Promised Land—or into Hell...
All I really know is that I do not “feel the Bern”—and that I cannot, in good conscience, vote for a criminal...

Your post looks especially prescient this morning. Trump has questioned Cruz's eligibility and we learn that Rep. Alan Grayson will file a suit about the eligibility issue should Cruz win the nomination. Ann Coulter tweets "Same lawyers who said anchor babies are in the Constitution now tell us being born outside U.S to 1 American parent = natural born citizen."
BTW it must be great to be in NH these days.
