WARNING: This is an ugly and frightening news story. A man believed to be an illegal alien brutally raped and assaulted a 93 year old Omaha woman. She would die as a result of the attack.
As disturbing as this story happens to be, it is not reassuring that Omaha.com tap dances around the suspect's immigration status. In the third article they reveal that the suspect might not be a US citizen.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has asked the jail to hold him, an official there said. That is often an indication that the federal agency is questioning an inmate's immigration status. Authorities had not released Martinez-Perez's immigration status as of late Thursday morning.
