Why I am Leery of The Teavangelical Coalition

Todd Akin. The reason why Akin made the ridiculous comments about "legitimate rape" is not because he is insensitive to women, but rather because he holds wacky beliefs. Not all Evangelicals are this silly any more than all Moslems are terrorists. But most terrorists are Moslems and absurd comments still spring forth from the mouths of Evangelicals in disproportionate numbers.

The Tea Party started shortly after Rick Santelli's legendary impromptu rant. Chicago hosted one of the first Tea Party protests. I doubt if a single person in the crowd at Susan Roesgen's meltdown believed that women could not be impregnated by rape. Three years later the original Tea Party types are less visible and the Akins are front and center. Could it be Gresham's Law at work?

The McCaskill seat was a slam dunk but it might fall back into the blue column. That would be a shame. But say what you may about the sitting Senator, she will never say anything half as stupid as Todd Akin's scientific proclamation.
