Haiti

A buddy of mine is of Haitian descent and his mother is missing in the aftermath. I would like to take this moment to extend condolences to Robert and his family and I hope that his mother is found in good health.

Teddy's Seat

Win or lose, Scott Brown might forever be remembered for reminding the press that he was not seeking Ted Kennedy's Senate seat. The seat belongs to the people of Massachusetts. If nothing else, Brown's comment resonated through the Internet and talk radio.

The election is coming down to the wire and it might ultimately be decided by the weather. If the weather is bad, Scott Brown will probably win because his voters are more motivated. If the sun is shining, Martha Coakley and the status quo will probably win. At any rate, this election will be talked about for a long time to come.

The Massacusetts Senatorial Election

Rasmussen states that it is likely that Martha Coakley will win Ted Kennedy's vacant Senatorial seat. Even if this is the case, the GOP will win a small victory. President Obama will not campaign for Coakley. This speaks volumes about Obama's dwindled popularity. The Dems want to keep Massachusetts in the worst possible way and if it would help the cause, Obama would definitely campaign for the Democratic candidate. The fact that the Coakley campaign thinks of Obama as an albatross is a nice consolation prize.

But it sure would be nice to grab the gold medal for a change.

Leave Harry Alone

I think it is a mistake that Sarah Palin joined Fox News but if she pushes that idiot Hannity off the network, I will be pleased. Why is Hannity struck with political correctness all of a sudden? For the uninformed, Hannity is bashing Harry Reid for his referring to Obama as "light-skinned" African American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

Reid might have worded things in a non-pc way, but who can refute the substance of his verbiage? The Obama campaign skilfully exploited their candidate's skin tone to win the White House. When he needed to be black, he was black. When he needed to be white, images of his mother and grandmother filled the screen. This was the playing of race card by virtuosos. Had Obama been white or had he been significantly more African looking, he probably would not be president. Body type matters. And that's the truth.

I would not say "no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one" but I have commented that Obama slides into street dialect when it is favorable to do so. "Negro" is not the N-word of choice for most racists. Like "colored" it identifies the user not as a racist but as a geezer. Harry Reid sees talking movies as a fad. Cut him some slack.

We walk away from this episode with three lessons. 1. Political correctness is stupid. 2. We must choose our battles carefully. 3. Hannity is an idiot.

Not All Rasmussen But...

DailyKos has Obama's Arkansas unfavorable rating at 55 while Rasmussen has it at 61. Funny how those things happen, isn't it?

Way Off Topic But...

I can't let this one go. The whole Tiger Woods fiasco hit a ton of nerves for me. For instance, the shedding of tears for a gold digger when she succeeded in digging gold. And the ridiculous sexist double standard that allows a woman to attack her husband with a golf club with zero legal ramifications. The PR shenanigans. And perhaps the stupidest of all, the recurring labeling of men who like women as misogynists.

All of the above topics (and a few more) illustrate the inherent dishonesty that in rife in our culture. But let's get back to specifics. If this was Beck or Hannity or O'Reilly I would not bat an eye. They do opinion and Brit Hume is an anchor. Big difference. Big difference.

Why does Hume feel it is OK to trash Buddhism? I bet if Tiger were Jewish or Moslem, Hume would not suggest a religious upgrade. And why is it that Christians love to focus on sexual matters to the exclusion of all else? Why doesn't Hume suggest that the radical elements of Islam, i.e murderers, change their faith? In that regard, Hume is not much different from a lot of other Christians I have known.

As far I know, Hume and Fox have never apologized to Woods or to Buddhists. That is too bad.
